Lawn Care
Watering: The seed bed must be kept moist at all times. The most critical period occurs immediately after germination and lasts for about one month, or until the grass plant has become established. During this period, the seed bed must be kept moist at all times. Light sprinklings with a hose are of little value to the grass, because most of the water is lost to evaporation. The best time to water your lawn is mid morning through late afternoon. By watering at these times, you are discouraging spores of mold and other diseases which thrive in moist darkness. Adjust your sprinkler to achieve a fine mist-like spray that won’t wash out the seed bed, but will penetrate the soil. To insure deep root penetration, water lawn with one inch of water once a week, in addition to frequent light watering during dry weather. Place an empty coffee can near your sprinkler and make not of the time required to fill the can one inch deep. Water your lawn for that length of time on all waterings.
Mowing: Your new lawn should not be mowed until it is about three inches tall. Close moving, below one and one half inches, does not permit the plant enough leaf surface to manufacture food and therefore weakens the plant. If the plant is weakened, weed seeds will be encouraged germinate and compete with the grass. Mow often enough so that not more than one and one half to two inches is cut off an any one time. Maintain mowing at a height of one and three quarters inches to two and three quarter inches throughout the season Do not rake off the straw unless it clumps heavily and no grass can be seen after four weeks. Mow over straw and continue mowing as the straw will eventually break down..
Weed Control: Prevention, or good management, is the best way to control weeds. A good, close-knit turf cover, if properly maintained, will in most cases prevent weeds from competing with the turf. Be sure that you attend to the basic requirements of fertilizing and liming. Also, mow frequently, maintaining a height as mentioned above, adjusting height higher as temperatures become hotter. Proper and frequent fertilizing can help prevent weed and disease infiltration of you lawn. Your lawn was fertilized upon installation and we recommend fertilizing it four to six weeks after installation.

This lawn established using correct horticultural procedures. We cannot be responsible for weeds that arise in the lawn as it grows or from grasses which may be introduced with the use of mulching material such as Timothy and Oats. These grasses are not a serious problem and will disappear after a season of maintaining a regular mowing height.
